Guess what we got for Christmas...a backed up Septic system. I couldn't believe it. Of all days for this to happen, it was Christmas. Luckily, it happened in the evening so we at least did get to enjoy opening gifts and playing with the new toys and stuff. Had it happened first thing in the morning, it really would've put a damper on the day.
Day after Christmas, we called around to find someone to come and pump the tanks. The most reasonable, couldn't come until the following day at 8 a.m. So, we went another day and night without the privilege of plumbing. No dishes, no laundry, no restroom facilities. The little things we take for granted certainly do not seem so little when they aren't available. But Thursday AM, the guys came and pumped the tanks for $250. It would've been more had Pat not dug the holes to the tanks himself. We truly do like to save a buck when we can :). Things were working once again. I was so grateful to be able to get the dishes done!
Oh and thank God this happened when it did because I would've hated to see the field beyond the tanks get damage. That would've been in the thousands to fix. I'm not sure what we would've done then.
Things I've learned: a family of four should get the septic tanks pumped every two to three years. Don't take the little things for granted.
I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas
Wow, it's been over a month since I've posted anything. I've been quite busy getting ready for Christmas this year. I made all my own Christmas cards this year. It took me a while, but I got it done. Because the finances were a bit tight, I did many handmade gifts this year. That's completely fine with me. I think a gift of the heart is the perfect gift. My favorite gift is simply time with my loved ones. No money required (except for gas if they live away). This year, Christmas is a little tougher in that I no longer have my mom around. But I do find comfort in knowing she's in my heart and is no longer in any pain.
While I'm here, I'd like to recommend a story for you believers out there. Maybe you've already read it. The story is called The Christmas Shoes, written by Donna VanLiere. It is the first book in a series. The other titles are The Christmas Blessing, The Christmas Hope and The Christmas Promise. I read the first book so far and I cried hard a few times. It is a very touching story.
Gotta go. Merry Christmas!!
